Byron Bay Blue's Festival!

If you’re after a more relaxed and hipster style festival, then Blue’s Festival is definitely for you.

Being a fair way away, I flew up on the day to experience the true tourist feel of Byron Bay – embracing the music, the culture, as well as the food.

I chose to camp out for the first two days, the blaring music and drinks acting as a blanket for the cold nights, however the 3^rd day was by far the greatest.

Kicking the tunes off in the early hours of the morning, Byron hit an all time high with thousands of people flocking from across the region to delve into the beats that were being thrown down. An array of deep house, alt, and RNB were played throughout the day with a line-up of heavy later on into the night, and the horridly expensive alcohol was masked by the great group of people surrounding the place.

Although different from most festivals, its definitely an insightful and cultural opening experience for people of any ages, and a definite for festival lovers in my mind.

DEFQON - what a time!

DEFQON 1 was definitely a night to remember. 

With the Weekend Warrior Camp allowing us to bridge the gap between festival and holiday - the boys got together for the three day adventure with beer and high spirit in hand.

Being known as Australia's biggest leading hard-style festival, we entered the days with high hopes. DEFQON offered a one-of-a-kind experience, connecting and array of visuals with an extraordinary lineup of artists to top it all off, fulfilling one of the greatest nights in memory – filled with laughter, drinking, and a whole lot of dancing.

Despite the expectation of a very aggressive and grouped off feel to the show, the festival turned out to be similar to the likes of GTM and Future, with each and every person propelling the heights of their hype from one to the next.

With this said, DEFQON is a definite must go if you’re into your festivals – a must do for the bucket list.

What to Wear to a Festival:

For you to look the part and have an amazing time at the festivals, you need to wear the appropriate clothes at the festival. Firstly, wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Always be smart about your dress code. Dress according to the weather, since most festivals are held outdoors. It's a good idea to bring an extra layer of warmer clothes to put on in the evening when the temperature drops. Furthermore, avoid wearing thongs or other shoes that are not fully covered in as it's better to wear closed-toe shoes to protect your feet when you're moving amidst large crowds.

What to pack when going to a Festival:

To have a good time at a festival you need to make sure that you pack the essentials as packing can be a key determinant for a good time versus a horrible time. Firstly, pack light and pack smart, leave valuables and nonessentials at home as you dont want to have anything lost in which you care immensely about. Make sure you pack some sturdy gear and maybe a lock in which you can keep your best items which are valuable for you on the day/trip. To avoid sickness, take a personal hygiene kit with hand sanitizer, toilet paper, toothbrush and toothpaste. You should also bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. Lastly and most importantly, a water bottle is also absolutely necessary.

Future Festival

Future festival 2013 started out with a bang.

With everyone dressed in similar attire, we pushed onward to the dance floor in the 37-degree heat, following the direction of the loudest crowds and the best music.

The hot rooms filled up instantly with sweaty bodies as the likes of Will Sparks and Justin Bieber jumped to the decks, first performing in the cone - a soundproof room covered in strobes.

Although we all felt a little ill from the drinks we had prior to the event, the day pushed forward and slowly the hype overwhelmed our sways and constant slurring.  

The culture of the festival was amazing – not a sad face in sight. The music was amazing, the light were stunning, and the setup and collaboration were perfectly executed.

As the night grew on us, the music got faster and the bass got deeper, and the vibes went from good to better.

At the final moments, the last few songs were announced and the crowds were enormous, with people from around the arena cramming up to get the closest glimpse at a front row position.

However frightening it may have been at the time, Future was one of the most magnificent and mind-blowing experiences of the year. Definitely a must do for all festival lovers!

GTM - 2015

Groovin in the Moo, what a day to remember.

Early morning starts aren’t always the best, but in this case, the 6am breakfast call by the lads triggered a sense of excitement in of us – it was time, the trip to Maitland was just above the horizon. 

After 7 hours of driving and swapping stories from previous festivals, we parked the car and headed to the entrance for what was meant to be the biggest piss-up of the year – Groovin’ in the Moo 2015.  Drink in hand, we entered the premise to the sound of Jungle Giant, grabbing some nachos on the way before we headed of to meet the girls down the front.

The mood was set – the sun fell below the mountains in the distance, and the glistening of heated bodies lit up the grass like wildfire.

People were definitely dressed for the occasion.

There were a variety of different people in the area, from the typical festival goers, to older trendies, and even lads and lasses, but all with the same agenda and attitude, dancing to the beat of the bands as they rose to the stage.

As the lineup moved forward, the mood changed from relaxed to intense with bands like the dinosaurs and hot chilli peppers stepping up to perform, with the last being Flume.

As we finished up, blood still pumping from the dancing, we grouped together singing along to the final few chorus’ as we paraded back to the car – saying our goodbyes to new friends and people we’d met.

We had a long night of driving ahead, but with the festival behind us, we couldn’t have chosen a better way to do it – the hype holding up our ride home with stories, banter, and singing.
